Canada immigration updates 2024

On November 6, 2024, guidance was updated to indicate that multiple-entry visas
issued to maximum validity are no longer considered to be a standard. Officers may
exercise their judgement in deciding whether to issue a single or multiple-entry visa,
as well as the validity period.

While multiple-entry visas with maximum validity were previously the norm, officers
will now assess each applicant individually, potentially issuing shorter visas based on
need. Under the new policy, frequent travellers to Canada most likely will face
increased cost and other challenges, as they may need to apply for visas more
frequently.

On November 8, 2024, Student Direct Stream (SDS) and Nigeria Student
Express (NSE) Programs were closed. The closure of these programs is expected
to promote equal access to study permits for all international students and to
enhance program integrity.

Immigration Levels Plan

Each year, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship tables the
Immigration Levels Plan, a snapshot of immigration targets for the next three years.

What does the reduced immigration levels plan, including subsequent changes, such
as visitor visas, mean to the applicants? Simply put, every application, whether for
temporary or permanent resident status, must be IMPECALBLY prepared.
